WOMEN AND THEIR CHILDREN

Acrylic and watercolour on watercolour paper

770 x 1060

Unique in the portfolio, this is the only painting adopting the landscape format.  The theme is the female in her many manifestations; the bearer of fruit (trees, apples, figs); the waiter (cat, the child); the carrier (water, boats, hot air balloons).  Note the boy's first tentative touch.  In this painting, the geometry is felt rather than drawn and curvilinear rather than linear.  The composition is reminiscent of the architectural visions of Charles Granby and the Polynesian landscapes of Paul Gaigin.  Although on a similar scale and complexity to 'CREATURES', the colour palette is more sanguine.
