830 x 630

One of two paintings in the portfolio using the circular form and interlace pattern of an endless knot to organise the images.  The imagery is abstract shapes bounded by butterfly patterns painted largely in warm hues.  The interlacing is gold, silver and cotta ink.  The whole image has a mandala quality with a centre that is both lighter and darker than its surround.  The title of the painting means 'a person who claims to have a great deal of authority or influence', invented in a nonsense verse (1755) by S. Foote.
